the
LABRADOR RETRIEVER
FRIENDLY, ACTIVE, OUTGOING
The gentle, intelligent and family-friendly Labrador retriever from Canada continues to be the most popular breed in the United States according to AKC registration statistics. This versatile hunting breed comes in three colors - yellow, black and chocolate - and because of their desire to please their masters, they excel as guide dogs for the blind, as part of search-and-rescue teams and in narcotics detection with law enforcement.
History
The Labrador retriever has a unique history. They come from Newfoundland. They have a strong history as water dogs and that is where they excel.
The St. John's Water Dog was brought to America and became known as the Labrador retriever. AKC first recognized this breed in 1917.
Temperament
The Labrador retriever is one terrific family dog and is one of the best dogs for children of all ages. Labrador retrievers are kindly, good-natured, and take most things in stride.
In 2015, AKC named the Labrador Retriever the number one dog in America for the 25th year in a row!
